Principle shooting already started March 2004 on the construction site of the Tabou Tiki Room in Berlin where we met King Kukulele and Tiki carver Danny Gallardo for the first time. Our two-tiki film crew then set sails for the Pacific where we shot footage and interviews during the months of April, May and June. Our destinations were New Zealand, Fiji, the Cook Islands, Tahiti, Moorea and Hawaii.
Finally, several months and many Polynesian Islands later we reunited with King and Danny in California. Thanks to the King and Mr. Gallardo we managed to cover the state and 30 interviews in a little bit more than two weeks.
After 3 months of constant traveling we were exhausted but kept going. Yeah, we got infected with tikimania. On we went to Italy, France and Germany to discover the European way of Tiki. And back in Florida in September for the wonderful Hukilau we had the pleasure experience real adventures: Surviving Hurricane Jeanne with lots of Maitais inside the overwhelming Maikai.
